What’s So Amazing About Grace

Our August book on Christian Book Club will be Phillip Yancey’s “What’s So Amazing About Grace”.  If you don’t have your copy you should start working on getting one.  I will put a link on this post in case you need to order one.

The Numbers of Hope 3:16 – Week 4

This week at the Christian Book Club we will be finishing The Numbers of Hope. Our reading and discussion will focus on chapters 10 through 12 and the daily devotional at the end of the book. I think this will be enjoyable reading for you. Max does a good job of talking about Heaven and Hell. He also talks about living with the promise of John 3:16. I look forward to your comments as always.

If you don’t have C.S. Lewis “The Weight of Glory” yet, make sure you order it soon. We will start reading it July 1st. I love Lewis and I think you will enjoy these “sermons” that he delivered during World War II.

I will be praying for all of you and hope that you are enjoying the Christian Book Club Online. I was just given a copy of a book called The Shack. It looks like an interesting book. I checked out the reviews and people seem to love it or hate it. I will probably be adding it to a future book club. Anyone with any insight on the book?

The Weight of Glory – July 2008

In July, the Christian Book Club will be reading “The Weight of Glory” by C.S. Lewis. Lewis is one of my favorite authors. This book is a collection of nine messages that Lewis gave during World War II. I am confident you will enjoy reading and discussing the ideas and concepts that Lewis puts forth. So if you don’t have a copy, you can use the link below to order one to make sure you have it in time.

The Numbers of Hope 3:16 – Week 3

Here on Christian Book Club we move in to week three of Max Lucado’s “The Numbers of Hope 3:16″. I hope you are enjoying not only the book but the daily devotionals as much as I am. Once again let me say that I am grateful for your comments as they really add to the reading experience. This week we will be reading chapters 7-9. When you start chapter 9 there is a reference to Team Hoyt. This is an amazing father and son relationship that Max uses to illustrate believing in and depending on God. I am including a video from You Tube that will introduce you to Team Hoyt. I think it is also a fitting tribute for Father’s Day (make sure your speakers are on, the background music is really good). Don’t forget to get your books ordered for next month’s club. It is a C.S. Lewis offering called the Weight of Glory. Enjoy the video and I look forward to your comments.

The Numbers of Hope 3:16 – Week 2

We are going to be reading chapters 4 – 6 of The Numbers of Hope on Christian Book Club this week. I have been trying to write this article all day and have been dealing with a slow Internet connection. I was getting really frustrated so I had to just give it a break for a while. As I was waiting I was thinking about how silly it is to get frustrated over something like the speed of my Internet connection. Of course, it took me a little while to get there. I initially wanted to call my provider and complain to someone. “What is wrong with your Internet Service today?” “Don’t you realize how important what I have to do is?” “How could anything move so slowly?” Sometimes I am amazed at my own self-importance!

Keep reading the daily devotionals. I am really enjoying them. I like Chapter 6. I am glad that Jesus is a heart transplant specialist! I will comment more during the week! Look forward to reading your comments as well.

The Numbers of Hope 3:16 – Discussion 1

Here on the Christian Book Club we are in the first three chapters of The Numbers of Hope 3:16 by Max Lucado.  Max is a very easy author to read.  His stories seem to flow so well.  In the first chapter I like how he talks about being “Born Again”.  The original creator recreates his creation.  I like that.  I don’t know about you but I really needed and still regularly need to be recreated!  Chapter 2 has Max reminding us of the magnitude of who God is.  I kind of chuckle at how often we act as though somehow we can control God.  This of you who read “Your God is Too Safe” with us know what I mean.  Chapter three presented a great discussion on how stubborn we are.  He also includes a really bad little joke on page 27 when he is talking about a cow.  “Udderly Foolish!”  I love bad jokes.  Keep reading and share your comments with us!
